What are email notifications used for?

When customers complete an action, earn a reward, or move up a VIP tier, Ako Marketing will automatically send an email to let them know what changed.

🔔Note: Email notifications are not the same as marketing EDMs. If you need a tool to send marketing emails, please refer to the Klaviyo integration guide to customize your campaigns and promote your store.

Step 1:Complete Sender Information

▍Setting Path: Ako Marketing > Loyalty Program > Settings > Email Notifications

  1. Under Preview, click Complete sender info. Enter your store or brand name in the "From" field (appears as sender name), then enter your customer service email in the "Reply To" field.
  2. Click "Upload Logo" to add your brand logo, you can select from Shopify files or upload a new one. Click "Done", then the logo will appear in emails (as shown below):
  3. Click the "⋯" button > "Settings" to choose a footer type. There are two options:
    1. Default: Sent by Ako on behalf of [Your Store Name]
    2. Company Information: Customize company details. Depending on where you’re located, you might need to include a physical postal address in your emails, for more information, please refer to the Shopify help center.

Step 2: Customize and Activate Emails

Ako Marketing provides 4 categories and 15 types of email notifications, including reward, referral, VIP tier, and expiry reminder templates.

Follow the steps below to edit and enable each email template:

  1. Click Edit on the notification template you want to activate.
  2. Edit the default copies and variables as needed.
  3. Click Send test email to preview the formatting before going live.
  4. Switch the Email Notification Status to "On" to enable the template.

Email Notification Types

Notification Type When It's Sent
Place an order - Points earned Sent right after customers earn points from an order. Trigger rules depend on your settings in Loyalty Program > Points > Order.
Place an order - Store credit earned Sent right after customers earn store credits from an order.
Sign up Sent when customers complete sign-up via email or social accounts. For Shopify’s new account system, signing in with a 6-digit login code counts as signing up.
Connect social accounts Sent after customers connect any social account. Each customer only gets one reward email even if they link multiple accounts.
Complete your profile Sent right after customers fill out their profile (e.g. birthday or gender) and receive a reward.
Celebrate a birthday Sent at 00:00 on the customer's birthday. Customers must set their birthday at least 24 hours in advance to receive the reward on time.
Write a product review Sent after customers complete a product review and earn a reward.
Referrer reward earned Sent when a referred friend places their first order and earns a reward. The referrer gets their reward and the email is sent.
Referred friend reward earned Sent right after a new customer enters a referral code or uses a referral link and earns a reward.
VIP Tier unlocked Sent when customers upgrade or downgrade to a new tier. If the new tier has no reward, use the "Content for no rewards" field to add a custom message.
VIP Tier renewed Sent when customers meet the renewal conditions for their current VIP tier. Same as above, use "Content for no rewards" if needed.
Discount code expiry Reminder emails are sent before a discount code expires. You can customize the timing (e.g. 14 and 1 day before expiry).
Points expiry Reminder emails are sent before points expire. You can customize the timing (e.g. 14 and 1 day before expiry).

Available Email Variables

Variable Purpose Example
{{points}} Displays the number of points the customer earned. You've earned {{points}} points.
→ You've earned 500 points.
{{storeCredits}} Displays the amount of store credits earned. You've earned {{storeCredits}} cashback.
→ You've earned $100 cashback.
{{rewardTitle}} Shows the name of the reward task the customer completed. You completed {{rewardTitle}}.
→ You completed Sign Up.
{{rewardCollection}} Lists all rewards the customer received from one task (e.g. a discount, free shipping, points). You received:

.200 points
.10% Off Coupon
{{expiredDate}} Shows when the reward or points will expire. Use your reward before {{expiredDate}}.
→ Use before 2025/12/31 GMT+8.
{{vipTier}} Shows the customer’s VIP tier after upgrade/renewal. Welcome to {{vipTier}}!
→ Welcome to Silver!


Step 3:Customize Reward/Points Expiry Reminders

By default, Ako Marketing sends two reminder emails before points or discount codes expire.If you'd like to change the timing, go to the expiry templates and click Edit. 

Then click Edit in Notification:

Set the reminder days underExpiry notificationand click Save:

  • Countdown reminder: First email (up to 30 days before expiration)
  • Last chance reminder: Final email (as close as 1 day before expiration)

That’s it! Once your email templates are customized and activated, Ako Marketing will automatically handle all reward and reminder emails for you.
