What this guide helps you do
This guide helps you troubleshoot common issues when the Points Redemption button doesn’t work properly—such as subtotal not updating or button not showing in the right place.
Who should read this guide
- Your customers said they can’t see the Redeem Points button.
- You’re using a slide cart drawer, but the button doesn’t show there.
- You can redeem points, but the redemption button layout looks odd or doesn’t appear where you want.
- You can redeem points, but the subtotal price doesn’t update after applying points.
Fix 1. When subtotal doesn’t update correctly
⚠️ Please remove your storefront password protection first, or the system can’t detect your cart settings.
- Scroll down to Widget Placement. Make sure "Show widget on cart page" is toggled on.
- You’ll see two sections here — one for cart page, and one for cart drawer.
- Click Detect default position based on your cart type. If you’re using both, click it for both sections.

- The AI will move the redemption button to the right place so the subtotal updates correctly after customers use points.
- When it’s done, click Preview in theme and test: Add a product to your cart → Redeem points → Check if the subtotal updates correctly.
If the AI detection doesn’t fix the issue, follow these steps to set it up manually:
- Go to your website and add any product to your cart.
- Stay on your cart page or cart drawer.
- Right-click anywhere and select Inspect to open DevTools.
(Shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + C on Windows/Linux, Command + Option + C on macOS.) - Hover over the subtotal, right-click the highlighted element, and choose Copy → Copy selector.

- Go back to Ako Marketing admin and paste what you copied into "Cart total placement" and save.
- If it still doesn’t work, please contact us at service@akohub.com
Fix 2. Adjust the button position manually
If you want to move the redemption button to another place in your cart, follow these steps:
- Go to your store and add any product to your cart.
- Stay on the cart page or cart drawer.
- Right-click anywhere on the page and choose Inspect to open DevTools.
(Shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + C on Windows/Linux, Command + Option + C on macOS.) - In the DevTools window, hover over different elements on your page until you see the area where you want to place the button highlighted.
💡Think of this as picking the "spot" where the button should appear. - Once you find the right spot, right-click that element and choose Copy → Copy selector.

- Go back to Ako Marketing admin and paste what you copied into Points redemption widget placement.
- Save your settings and check your store again to confirm the button is now in the right place.
- If the position still doesn’t change as expected, please contact us at service@akohub.com
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why does the redemption button appear on my cart page but not my cart drawer?
The redemption button must be enabled for each cart type separately. Under the Widget Placement settings, ensure that you have toggled on the visibility for both the "Cart Page" and the "Cart Drawer."
Q: Does the "Detect default position" feature work with every Shopify theme?
The AI detection works with most standard Shopify themes. However, if your theme has a highly customized layout or a unique cart structure, you may need to follow the manual steps in Fix 2 to copy and paste the specific CSS selector for the button's placement.
Q: Why is it necessary to remove storefront password protection during setup?
The Ako Marketing system needs to "see" your cart's code structure to automatically detect the subtotal and button positions. Password protection blocks this access, preventing the AI from correctly configuring the widget for your store.
Q: Can I change the style or color of the "Redeem Points" button?
Yes. You can customize the look and feel of the button under Accounts & Widgets > Storefront Widgets > Points Redemption. If you need advanced CSS styling to match your brand perfectly, please contact our support team.
