Overview
This Custom Solution lets customers redeem selected products directly with their accumulated points. Reward Products can be added to the cart, checked out together with regular items, and shipped to the customer's designated address.
The Custom Solution involves two roles:
- Merchant admin: Merchants configure which products can be redeemed with reward points and how many points each requires.
- Customer storefront: Customers view their points, browse redeemable products, and complete redemptions.
Why This Matters for Your Loyalty Program
Most loyalty programs let members redeem points for discounts or store credit — useful, but easy to overlook, and it chips away at margin every time. Turning points into specific, hand-picked products gives members something tangible to aim for:
- Points get used, not forgotten. A concrete reward gives members a reason to keep earning instead of letting a points balance sit idle.
- You choose what moves. Since you control which products are redeemable, you can feature overstock, new arrivals, or high-margin items — without touching your discount codes.
- It reads as a perk, not a coupon. Redeeming for a real product feels more like a reward than another markdown, which reinforces loyalty instead of training customers to wait for sales.
Because the right products and point values are different for every store, this works best as a setup tailored to your catalog — which is why it's offered as a custom solution add-on.
Customer Frontend Layout
The redemption page is organized into three main sections:
- My Points: Located at the top, it displays the customer's current available points balance and updates instantly after redemption.
- Redeemed Products: This section populates with products after a successful redemption. Customers can select items to "Add to Cart."
- Redemption Zone: Displays all products set by the merchant for the Customer Rewards Program. Each item shows the required points.
3. Redemption Process
- Check Points: Enter the redemption page and confirm your available balance at the top.
- Select Product: Click on a desired item to open the confirmation pop-up. Items with insufficient points will appear greyed out.
- Confirm Redemption: The pop-up displays the product name, points required, and the remaining balance.
⚠️ Note: Points are deducted immediately and cannot be reversed.
- Redeemed Area: The product will move to the "Redeemed Products" section.
- Add to Cart: Select the redeemed items and add them to the cart to checkout with regular purchases.
4. Special Scenarios

5. Merchant Backend Configuration
How to set up Reward Products

To set up Reward Products, follow these steps in the Shopify Admin:
- Navigate to Products and select the specific item.
- Find the App blocks section and add "Ako Marketing: Reward products".
- Click "Edit reward redemption".
- Toggle "Redeemable with points" to ON and set the Points required.
- Click Save.
Collections and Sorting
The system automatically creates a Collection for all reward products. The display order on the customer's redemption page follows the sorting priority set for this collection in the Shopify backend.
Disabling Redemption
To stop point redemptions while keeping the item for regular sale, toggle "Redeemable with points" to OFF in the product's App block settings.
