This guide explains how to automatically reward customers with bonus loyalty points during a specific promotion period using Shopify Flow.
This setup is commonly used for campaigns such as Black Friday Cyber Monday (BFCM), New Year promotions, product launches, or other limited-time sales events.
What is Shopify Flow?
Shopify Flow is an automation tool that allows you to create workflows based on triggers, conditions, and actions.
In this use case:
- Trigger: An order is paid
- Condition: The order falls within a defined promotion period
- Action: Bonus loyalty points are awarded to the customer
By using Shopify Flow, you can automate promotional rewards without manual intervention, ensuring consistency and reducing operational effort.

Ako Marketing provides pre-built templates, such as rewarding extra points for high-value orders.
- Open the Shopify Flow app and click Browse Templates.

2. Select Ako Marketing and choose your template

3. Click Install and then Turn on workflow.
How to Use Our Template?
This template allows you to automatically apply bonus point multipliers to orders placed within a specific date range. It is designed for running time-bound loyalty campaigns such as BFCM, New Year, limited time sales events and product launch promotions. With this template you can:
- Automatically detect when an order is paid
- Check if the order falls within a defined promotion period
- Award bonus loyalty points (e.g., 2× points) for qualifying orders

After installing, you should customize the following:
1. Promotion Date Range
Update the condition block to match your campaign period:
- First condition:
Created at ≥ Jan 1, 2026, 12:00 AM
Includes all orders placed on or after the start date - Second condition (AND):
Created at ≤ Jan 4, 2026, 12:00 AM
Includes all orders placed on or before the end date
Because the two conditions are connected with AND (Recommended to use AND), an order must satisfy both: The order must be created between Jan 1 and Jan 4, 2026 (inclusive)

If you choose OR, an order only needs to meet one condition. This can result in:
- A much broader range of qualifying orders
- In some cases, nearly all orders being included

This setup is generally not recommended for standard promotions, but may be useful for:
- Testing workflows
- Custom logic scenarios with additional conditions
2. Points Bonus
This field controls the multiplier applied to the base points.
Example values:
- 1.05 → 5% extra points
- 1.5 → 50% extra points
- 2 → 100% extra points (2× points)
In this template, the value is set to 2, meaning: Customers receive double points during the promotion period

3. Custom Issue Date (Optional)
When enabled, you can control when points are issued instead of issuing them immediately.
- Typically used with a Shopify Flow “Wait” step
- Useful for:
- Delayed rewards (e.g., after return window)
- Post-fulfillment incentives
4. Public Note (Optional)
This note is visible to customers in their account activity.
Use this to explain the reward, for example:
- “🎉 Double points for our New Year promotion”
- “Bonus points earned during limited-time campaign”
For Internal note, this note is only visible internally.
Summary
By combining Shopify Flow with this template, you can automate time-based loyalty promotions with minimal effort. Once configured, the system ensures that eligible customers receive the correct bonus points during your campaign period without manual intervention.
FAQs
How does the promotion get triggered?
The workflow is triggered when an order is marked as paid in Shopify. Once triggered, Shopify Flow checks whether the order meets the defined conditions before awarding bonus points.
Which orders qualify for bonus points?
Only orders that are both paid and created within the defined promotion date range will qualify, provided you are using the recommended AND condition setup.
Can I apply different bonus multipliers for different campaigns?
Yes. You can adjust the points multiplier value in the template at any time. For example, you can run 2× points for one campaign and 1.5× points for another.
What happens if I set the multiplier incorrectly?
If the multiplier is set too high or too low, customers will receive more or fewer points than intended. It is recommended to test the workflow before launching your campaign.
