About Shopify’s Customer Account System

Shopify supports two types of customer account systems:

  1. Customer accounts (Recommended): A passwordless login system using a 6-digit code sent by email.
  2. Legacy customer accounts: The traditional system where customers log in using their email and password or with their social accounts.

Depending on your needs, you may need to choose between them or set them up in a specific order to use both. To access your customer account, click on the profile button as shown below

Loyalty Program Status

Here, customers can see how many points they have and what level or tier they are in (if the program has levels). It helps them know how close they are to their next reward or benefit, so they stay excited and motivated to come back and shop more.

Loyalty Program Page

This page shows everything about the loyalty program in one place. Customers can see how the program works, how to earn points (like making a purchase or signing up), and what rewards they can get by using their points.

Personal details

This is where customers can see and update their basic information, like their name, birthday and gender.  Here’s what it looks like in the frontend:

What is the difference between "New" and "Legacy" customer accounts?

Shopify's New Customer Accounts (Recommended) utilize a passwordless login system via a 6-digit email code. Legacy accounts use the traditional email and password method. Akohub integrates with both, but the new system offers a much smoother, mobile-optimized experience for managing loyalty rewards.

What information can customers see in their "Loyalty Program Status"?

This widget allows customers to see their current point balance and their VIP tier level at a glance. It serves as a progress tracker, keeping them motivated to reach the next reward level while they shop.

How does the "Loyalty Program Page" differ from the status widget?

While the status widget shows quick metrics, the Loyalty Program Page is a dedicated full-page interface. It explains the entire program logic, listing all ways to earn points (like signing up or making purchases) and all available rewards for redemption.

Can customers update their own personal details?

Yes. By enabling Akohub's Personal Details widget, customers can view and update their name, birthday, and gender directly from their account profile. You can even lock the birthday field after the first entry to prevent reward fraud.

Where do I find these settings in the Shopify Admin?

Most account-level configurations are found under Settings > Customer Accounts in your Shopify Admin. From there, you can choose which Akohub widgets to install—such as the Loyalty Page or Personal Details profile extensions.
